NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center
Following its opening in 1791, The New York Hospital has had a celebrated history of serving the needs of patients with psychiatric illness. It was the first hospital in New York City to develop a separate facility offering progressive, humane treatment for the patients suffering with mental illness. Founded in 1932, the name Payne Whitney has long been synonymous with expert behavioral health care, superior training and education, and first-class research and scholarship. Located on the campus of NewYork-Prebyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center on Manhattan's Upper East Side, Payne Whitney continues its rich tradition of excellence and innovation as an important program of Weill Cornell Psychiatry.
Using the latest advances in therapy and medication, patients receive expert evaluation and treatment across all levels of care including inpatient, outpatient, and partial hospitalization. A 32-bed inpatient unit provides acute care and symptom stabilization for adults 18 years of age and over.
For those not requiring an inpatient stay, partial hospital, continuing day treatment, and outpatient care is available for people with a wide range of diagnoses, including affective, anxiety, and psychiatric disorders.
Patients can access emergency evaluation and care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, through Payne Whitney's Psychiatric Emergency Room, while its Central Evaluation Service offers diagnostic assessments. A new Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) opened in Spring of 2015 offering a range of services – acute emergency treatment, extended observation care and crisis response services.
NewYork-Presbyerian Hosptial/Westchester Division
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Westchester Division, established in 1894, is the second oldest free-standing psychiatric hospital in the country. With over 260 inpatient beds, and extensive outpatient and partial hospital programs, the Westchester Division provides a full continuum of care for children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly.
Highly specialized services provided by experts offer outstanding state-of-the-art treatment for a wide variety of psychiatric illnesses, including personality disorders, eating disorders, geriatric psychiatry, anxiety and mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and child and adolescent psychiatry. Patients benefit directly from the latest findings of our internationally-recognized research faculty.
The Westchester Division offers patient-centered, compassionate care for those seeking treatment and has been designated a "Planetree Designated Patient-Centered Hospital" -- the first behavioral health hospital in the U.S. and one of only 16 hospitals worldwide to receive this distinction. The program has been ranked consistently among the top departments of psychiatry in the country by numerous publications and surveys, as well as behavioral health care specialists, patients, and families.
Located in the city of White Plains in Westchester County, New York, we are 30 minutes from New York City by car or train. The hospital is on a historic, beautifully landscaped 200 acre campus specifically designed to offer a tranquil, restorative environment. To promote health and well-being for our patients, staff, and visitors, the Westchester Division is a smoke-free campus. Gracious buildings situated throughout the grounds, many of which retain their historic detail, provide dedicated space for therapeutic programs and recreational activities.
