Health Justice

The Department of Psychiatry has led pioneering work that is broadening the scope of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) within our department and Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian at large. As our DEI mission evolves to focus on health justice, we prioritize initiatives and organizing principles that directly link departmental DEI initiatives with the strategic priorities of our institutions.

Our Mission

Our mission is to pursue health justice through a dual focus on internal and external initiatives. We strive to promote a fair and ethical environment within our department while extending our efforts outward to address broader community mental health needs. Guided by the three pillars of respect, inclusion and health equity, we empower our faculty, staff, students and trainees to advance health justice and enhance community well-being.

Our Guiding Pillars

Respect

We will foster an environment that treats all faculty, staff and patients as valued human beings. Our teams continue to honor and acknowledges everyone's contributions while encouraging effective communication within the workplace.

Inclusion

We will promote a culture of inclusivity that supports the experiences of faculty who reflect the diversity of backgrounds of the populations we serve.

Health Equity

We will create and advance systems in which everyone has a fair and just opportunity to attain their highest level of health through our clinical, educational and research efforts.
