Please join us for the First Annual Perinatal-Infant Psychiatry Conference - Separation and Connection in an Everchanging World: Understanding the Experiences of Parents and Babies. This one day virtual event will take place on Saturday, May 6th, 2023 from 9:00am - 4:00pm. A recording of the event will be available upon request. 

The conference is free of charge and open to all mental health, obstetrics, and pediatric professionals and trainees interested in perinatal and infant mental health.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe how parent and infant health functions as a unit.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of the impact of COVID-19 and other stressors on the experience of women and infants during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
  3. Describe the direct experiences of mothers, infants, and their care providers through subjective, biological, psychological, and social lenses through periods of isolation.
  4. Explain the impact of COVID-19 on perinatal mood and anxiety disorder symptoms.
  5. Identify how COVID-19 led to experiences of separation and connection for families in the perinatal period from a psychodynamic perspective.
  6. Describe the impact of COVID-19 on psychiatry and how it has affected practice for patients and care providers.
  7. Explain racial disparities that exist for mothers and infants and how intergenerational trauma has affected families.

Continuing Education Credits

6.0 CE credits will be awarded to licensed psychologists and social workers who have met the attendance requirements below.

Continuing education credits are available free of charge for WCM Department of Psychiatry full time and voluntary psychology and social work faculty. CE credits are available for $100 for non-Weill Cornell Medicine Department of Psychiatry faculty. Refunds will not be provided to those not meeting the CE attendance requirements.

Psychologists: Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) Department of Psychiatry, 525 E 68th St. New York, NY 10065, is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Psychology as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed psychologists #PSY-0192. WCM is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. WCM maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

Social Workers: The New York Presbyterian Hospital Department of Social Work is recognized by New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers # SW 0155. Social workers from other states, please confirm with your state licensing board. Please note that we do not specify type of credits (general, cultural competence, clinical, etc.)

CE Certificate Requirements: Please note that in order to receive your 6.0 CE certificate for the event, you must attend the entire conference and complete the evaluation in accordance with NYSED and APA requirements. No partial credit will be given to those attending only a portion of the conference. Please plan accordingly to sign in with your full name, log-in on time, and remain for the duration of the event. If you are on faculty at WCM, sign into the zoom using your SSO and please make sure to use your full name. Participants who do not meet the attendance requirements will not receive a CE certificate or refund.

CE Distribution: Evaluation forms will be distributed via email following the workshop to those meeting the attendance requirements above. There will be one certificate awarding 6.0 CE hours for the event. Evaluations must be completed within one month of the workshop.

Complaints: The Weill Cornell Medicine Department of Psychiatry (WCM) is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the American Psychological Association's Ethical Principles of Psychologists. WCM will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of program participants.
