Continuing Education Requirements for Psychologists Licensed in Connecticut

Number of CEs required in Connecticut for Psychologists:

Each licensed psychologist must complete a minimum of ten hours of continuing education during each registration period. The "registration period" refers to the twelve-month period for which a license is being renewed.

As part of the renewal process, each licensee must complete at least two contact hours of training or education on mental health conditions common to veterans and their family members. This training must be completed at least once every six years and must cover:
(A) Identifying whether a patient is a veteran or a family member of a veteran,
(B) Screening for conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), suicide risk, depression, and grief, and
(C) Suicide prevention training.

Qualifying continuing education activities must be related to the practice of psychology and may include courses, seminars, workshops, conferences, and postdoctoral institutes. These activities must be offered or approved by one of the following:

  1. The American Psychological Association,

  2. A regionally accredited institution of higher education with a graduate program,

  3. A nationally recognized provider of continuing education seminars,

  4. The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, or

  5. A professionally or scientifically recognized behavioral science organization.
