An Inpatient Program Focusing on Recovery for Individuals with Eating Disorders

The Outlook at Westchester, located on the expansive, park-like campus of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Westchester Division, is a a collaborative program of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical College, and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, in affiliation with the New York State Psychiatric Institiute. It provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluations and developmentally-appropriate programming for adolescents, as well as adults, including individual and group psychotherapy, family therapy, accredited schooling, and therapeutic recreational activities.

The behaviorally focused program offers state-of-the-art treatment for patients, centering on restoration of weight and therapeutic management of associated psychological symptoms. Part of a complete continuum of care, The Outlook maintains ongoing communication with appropriate family members, referring professionals, and service providers.

Program Overview

The Outlook at Westchester, located on the expansive, park-like campus of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital?s Westchester Division, is a joint collaborative program of NewYork Presbyterian Hospital's Westchester Division. Drawing on the expertise of faculty members of these world-renown academic medical centers and teaching institutions, The Outlook offers patients the benefit of the most recent research findings and advancements in the clinical care of eating disorders.

Program Services

The program is designed to treat adults and adolescents with eating disorders, 13 years and older, in an age-appropriate setting, and provides thorough medical and psychiatric evaluations, including psychiatric histories, family assessments, physical examinations, and psychological testing. Each patient receives an individualized treatment and nutritional plan, and families are engaged throughout the recovery process.

Those patients completing an inpatient stay may be referred to an ambulatory program in a partial hospital or outpatient setting after discharge.

Treatment Team

The multidisciplinary treatment team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, social work therapists, nurses, and a nutritionist, as well as therapeutic activities specialists.

Facilities and Location

The Outlook is located in newly redesigned space constructed to create a welcoming inpatient setting, offering comfortable bedrooms and attractive communal living and dining areas. As a patient's acute problems stabilize, it may be therapeutic to utilize the Hospital's extensive landscaped grounds. Gardens, walking paths, tennis courts, a pool, and a par-three golf course are all located on the beautiful campus.

Conveniently located in the New York metropolitan area, the Hospital is easily reached by car or train from New York City, closely accessible to Connecticut and New Jersey, and within minutes of Westchester County Airport.
