Would you like to remain depression-free after ECT?

Description:

A research study focusing on maintaining wellness after successful ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) for depression in older adults, with the use of medication

Age:
60 years or older
Criteria:
Diagnosis of major depression; ECT is clinically indicated, able to provide Informed Consent
Duration:
Throughout the course of inpatient ECT. 6 months of outpatient follow-up treatment.
Compensation:
Up to $320 plus transportation costs

Are your current antidepressants not working? Do you have hypertension?

Description:

Involves treatment with an FDA-approved hypertensive medication and 2 MRI scans.

Investigational new drug for cognitive deficits in schizophrenia

Description:

To see if study drug may improve focus, problem-solving skills, memory and attention. This is a placebo-controlled study, so you will be randomly assigned to either the actual medication or an inactive pill. Everyone will stay on their current medication and treatment, making no changes except to adding the study pill every morning.

Age:
20-55
Criteria:
Receiving stable treatment for schizophrenia with antipsychotic medication other than clozaril/clozapine
Duration:
Visits every two weeks for 30 weeks, ranging from 2 hours to 4 hours each.
Compensation:
Between $40 and $75 depending on requirements of visit. Transportation may be reimbursed.

Description:

Diagnosis of major depression, right-handed, absence of neurological disorders or other psychiatric diagnoses
Duration:
Weekly and biweekly visits with a psychiatrist for 14 weeks

Placebo-Controlled Medication Study for Adults with Anorexia Nervosa

Description:

Study features close medical monitoring, a comprehensive evaluation, and research treatment at no cost.

Age:
18-75 years
Criteria:
Diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa and no other major medical or psychiatric problems
Duration:
16 weekly sessions (approx. 1 hour) with follow-ups at 20 and 24 weeks

Treatment for Severe Depression with Irrational Worries

Description:

Initial open treatment with FDA-approved medications followed by a discontinuation treatment trial for participants who achieve remission. This study uses Zoloft and Zyprexa to treat severe depression that is associated with irrational worries. Once symptoms have been in remission for eight weeks, participants either continue treatment with both medications or discontinue the Zyprexa and receive Zoloft plus placebo (to assure that participants do not know which treatment they are receiving).

Experiencing severe depression that is associated with irrational worries.
Duration:
One year. Visits range from weekly to monthly depending upon the study phase and clinical need.

$30 per clinic visit. Transportation arranged or reimbursed.

Do you suffer from bipolar disorder or experience severe mood swings?

Description:

If so, you may be eligible to participate in research study at the Weill Cornell Medical College. The purpose of this study is to better understand the relationship between bipolar disorder, body weight, and blood tests for inflammation. People with bipolar depression will be offered a place in a pilot study looking to see if the antibiotic minocycline added to your current psychiatric medications has an effect on your mood.

Participants are English-speaking and were exposed to a traumatic event (i.e. the World Trade Center attacks, Hurricane Sandy)

12 weekly individualized sessions, lasting from 1-3 hours
